Objective:
There is growing demand among patients and practitioners for a more aggressive treatment to address wrinkles and uneven texture while minimizing the recovery time experienced with other ablative technologies. The purpose of this clinical study was to determine the efficacy of skin resurfacing utilizing an

Er:YSGG

Laser (PEARL, Cutera, USA) focusing on skin texture improvement and pore size reduction for Asian skin.

Subjects and Methods: forty-nine human subjects ranging in age from the mid-twenties to late sixties with skin types III to IV were treated with two Pearl laser sessions at our clinic. Cosmetic skin rejuvenation was accomplished using a wavelength of 2790 nm, fluence of 2.0 J/cm2, pulse duration of 0.4ms, a pulse repetition rate of 20 Hz and a beam diameter of 6 mm with 3.0X3.0cm scanner. Treatment sites were evaluated and compared with the baseline (pre-treatment) regarding the skin texture, pore size, fine wrinkles and spotty pigmentation.

Results: At 2 months’ follow-up, the investigators reported improvement in skin texture, elasticity, pore size, fine wrinkles and spotty pigmentation compared with the baseline values. There were no serious complications, including post inflammatory hyper-pigmentation.

Conclusions: Er:YSGG laser resurfacing treatment offers a safe, cosmetic method of improving skin texture, especially pore size reduction for Asian skin with no serious adverse sequelae.
