The Truth About the Latest Anti-Aging Medicine
Last night, I gave a talk at the Institute of Golf Medical Science titled “The Truth About the Latest Anti-Aging Medicine.”
We started the evening by raising a glass of wine, followed by the lecture—and eventually, even karaoke. Thanks to everyone who joined us, the evening came to a very lively and successful close.
We had guests who had traveled quite a distance to attend, as well as several doctors. After the lecture, we had some very stimulating discussions.
The theme of the talk was to take the many anti-aging treatments available today and divide them into three categories:
Treatments with solid scientific evidence behind them.
Treatments for which the evidence is not yet sufficient, but which are likely to be effective.
Treatments where the marketing terminology has gotten ahead of the science, and for which evidence remains limited at this point.
I explained what kind of evidence—or lack thereof—leads me to place a treatment in each category.
I also included quite a bit of material that is rarely discussed in advertisements, so in the end, the talk became something of an “inside look at the world of aesthetic medicine.”
If I ever livestreamed the whole thing on the web, someone might even send an assassin after me.
The world of aesthetic medicine is constantly producing new treatments.
But “new” and “effective” are two completely different things.
One of the things I would like to accomplish in this field going forward is to organize aesthetic anti-aging medicine not around trends or hype, but as a scientific discipline grounded, as much as possible, in solid evidence.
I think last night’s gathering may have been a good place to begin.
