Sciton HALO TRIBRID

1470nm=深さ

1927nm=色

2940nm=表面

Asian Light

Asian Standard

Asian Strong

Bringing in the Next-Generation HALO TRIBRID — An Exciting Meeting with Sciton, the Ferrari of Medical Aesthetic Lasers

The other day, Daryl Mossburg, who is in charge of International Clinical Education at Sciton, a laser manufacturer headquartered in Palo Alto, California, visited Clinic F.

If I were to compare Sciton to a car, I would call it “the Ferrari of medical aesthetic lasers.”

Its machines are by no means inexpensive. Quite the opposite—they are very expensive. Especially in this era of a weak yen, the latest system we are considering is by far the most expensive piece of equipment we have ever introduced among the nearly 100 devices Clinic F has brought in over the years. In fact, it costs about as much as several Ferraris.

But the treatment results are truly impressive.

The stability of the light source, the precision of energy delivery and control, the meticulous engineering of the hardware, and above all, the philosophy behind how to apply the physical phenomenon of laser light to human skin—all of these elements come together in an exceptionally sophisticated system.

At a time when there are so many devices that essentially copy what could be called “generic” technology, Sciton clearly stands out as a manufacturer with its own philosophy and technical excellence. Clinic F has, in fact, been using Sciton devices for many years.

The biggest topic of our meeting this time was HALO TRIBRID, the latest system that Clinic F is currently considering for introduction to Japan.

As its name suggests, the most interesting aspect of this system lies in the “Tri”—three.

1470 nm, 1927 nm, and 2940 nm.

These three fractional laser wavelengths differ in their penetration depth, their absorption characteristics in water, and their role within the skin. Yet all three can be independently controlled within a single platform.

However, whenever I consider bringing a new laser to Japan, specifications are not what I am most cautious about.

The question I care about most is:

“Is it truly safe for Asian skin?”

That is the key question.

Compared with Caucasian skin, Asian skin is more prone to developing PIH (post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation) following laser-induced inflammation. A setting that works beautifully on Western skin cannot simply be transferred unchanged to Japanese patients.

That is why Daryl and I spent quite a bit of time discussing how these three wavelengths should be balanced specifically for Japanese skin.

1470 nm — Building the “Skeleton” of the Skin

The 1470 nm wavelength targets the relatively deeper dermis.

Through thermal stimulation, it promotes dermal remodeling and can help improve the appearance of pores, firmness, and elasticity. If I were to compare the entire TRIBRID treatment to building a house, I would regard this stage as the foundation work.

You can make the surface look beautiful, but if the foundation is weak, you cannot create truly youthful-looking skin.

1927 nm — Refining Skin Tone

For Japanese skin, the 1927 nm wavelength is particularly interesting.

It is well suited to targeting superficial pigmentary changes, dullness, and photodamage, making it the “color specialist” within the TRIBRID system.

However, with Asian skin, the idea that “the stronger the treatment, the better the result” can be dangerous.

Instead, energy and treatment density need to be controlled with great precision, treating only what needs to be treated while avoiding unnecessary inflammation.

That fine balance can make all the difference.

2940 nm — Polishing the Surface

The 2940 nm Er wavelength is highly absorbed by water, allowing precise ablation of the skin surface.

It is essentially the final polishing step—addressing rough texture, fine lines, pores, and other superficial irregularities.

Here again, deeper ablation is not necessarily better.

We have already delivered thermal energy into the dermis with 1470 nm and treated the superficial layers with 1927 nm. Rather than simply turning all three wavelengths up as high as possible, the key is to design the total energy delivered across the three wavelengths in a balanced way.

In other words:

1470 nm = Depth

1927 nm = Color

2940 nm = Surface

That is the division of roles.

By combining them within a single treatment, we can target dermal tightening, uneven pigmentation, and the quality and texture of the skin surface at the same time.

That is what makes TRIBRID so fascinating.

Another important advantage is the ability to design the downtime.

There is no reason to use the same settings for someone who says, “I have to work tomorrow, so I don’t want to be red,” and someone who says, “I can take a week off, so I want a more intensive treatment that delivers as much improvement as possible in a single session.”

At Clinic F, we plan to begin evaluating parameters specifically for Japanese skin based on three levels:

Asian Light

Asian Standard

Asian Strong

Laser treatment is not about finding the strongest possible setting.

It is about delivering precisely as much light as necessary, to precisely the depth that each individual needs.

In the end, that is what it all comes down to.

A Ferrari is not an exceptional car simply because it can go fast when you put your foot flat on the accelerator. It is exceptional because you can control the accelerator, brakes, and steering exactly as you intend—and that allows you to drive both fast and beautifully.

The same is true of lasers.

What can we achieve when the world’s most advanced hardware is combined with the knowledge and expertise Clinic F has accumulated over the years in treating Japanese skin?

I am genuinely excited to find out.
