2026年3月末、デンバーで開催される米国皮膚科学会（AAD）から、提出していた演題がオーラルで採択されたという知らせが届いた。気づけば、今回の滞在でこの街を訪れるのは五度目になる。

標高およそ1,600m——“マイル・ハイ・シティ”と呼ばれるデンバーの空は、いつ来ても驚くほど澄んでいて、その乾いた空気が旅の気配を一層際立たせる。都市にもかかわらず、どこか山の麓にいるような透明感があるのが、この街の不思議な魅力だ。

そして、デンバーの背後にはロッキー山脈が横たわっている。
前回の学会では、一日だけスケジュールを抜け、レンタカーでスキーリゾートのヴェイル（Vail）まで走った。雄大な山々に抱かれたあの白銀の斜面は、まさに北米の冬の象徴で、滑るというより、山と対話するような時間だった。

デンバーという街は、学問と自然が隣り合って存在している。
白衣の緊張感と、山の静けさ。

学会場の議論と、雪面を切る風の音。
その対比が、僕にとってここを何度訪れても飽きない理由なのだと思う。

五度目のデンバー——。
旅の成熟と、新しい発見への予感が、また静かに胸の内に灯り始めている。

In late March 2026, I received the news that the abstract I had submitted to the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD), to be held in Denver, had been accepted for an oral presentation. Before I realized it, this visit marked my fifth time coming to this city.

At roughly 1,600 meters above sea level—the “Mile-High City”—Denver’s sky is always astonishingly clear, and its dry air heightens the sense of being on a journey. Despite being a major city, it somehow has the crystalline atmosphere of a mountain foothill, which is one of its most intriguing charms.

And beyond Denver lies the Rocky Mountains.
During the previous conference, I managed to slip away for a day, rented a car, and drove out to the ski resort of Vail. The vast, snow-covered slopes embraced by majestic peaks felt like the very symbol of winter in North America. It was less about skiing and more like having a quiet conversation with the mountains.

Denver is a place where scholarship and nature coexist side by side.
The tension of a white coat, and the stillness of the mountains.
The lively discussions at the conference venue, and the sound of wind slicing across the snow.

I think it’s this contrast that keeps me from ever growing tired of returning here.

My fifth time in Denver—
a quiet spark of both a seasoned traveler’s maturity and the anticipation of new discoveries is beginning to glow within me once again.
